1. What Is a Partial Fill?
A partial fill means that a spot order submitted by a user is not fully filled at once. Instead, only part of the order is filled first, while the remaining unfilled portion continues to stay open and wait for matching.
For example, if a user places an order to buy 10 BTC, but the current market only has 3 BTC available for execution, the order will first be filled for 3 BTC, while the remaining 7 BTC will continue waiting to be filled.
2. Why Does a Partial Fill Happen?
Spot trading uses an order-matching mechanism. Whether an order can be fully filled depends on the current market price, order book depth, and order quantity.
Common reasons include:
The current order book has insufficient available quantity
The order quantity placed by the user is relatively large
The market price is fluctuating rapidly
The limit order price only meets partial execution conditions
The trading pair has relatively low liquidity
3. What Happens After an Order Is Partially Filled?
After an order is partially filled, the system will deduct or credit assets based on the actual filled quantity.
The remaining unfilled portion will usually stay in open orders and continue waiting until the market price and order book quantity meet the execution conditions.
Users can choose to continue waiting or manually cancel the remaining unfilled portion.
4. How Do Assets Change After a Partial Fill?
For a buy order:
If a user places an order to buy BTC with 1,000 USDT, and only 400 USDT worth of BTC is filled, the filled portion will be credited as BTC, while the remaining 600 USDT will continue to be frozen for future execution.
If the user cancels the remaining order, the frozen assets corresponding to the unfilled portion will be returned to the available balance in the spot account.
For a sell order:
If a user places an order to sell 10 BTC, and only 3 BTC is filled, the user will receive the corresponding executed amount, while the remaining 7 BTC will continue to stay open and remain frozen.
5. Can a Partially Filled Order Be Canceled?
Yes.
If an order has been partially filled, users can only cancel the remaining unfilled portion. The filled portion cannot be canceled.
After the cancellation is successful, the remaining unfilled portion will no longer continue to be matched, and the corresponding frozen assets will usually be automatically returned to the available balance in the spot account.
6. Where Can I View Partial Fill Records?
Users can view the following information on the spot trading page:
Open Orders
Order History
Trade History
Asset Details
Trade History will show information such as the actual execution price, filled quantity, and execution time.
7. Friendly Reminder
Partial fill is a normal situation in spot trading and does not mean that the order is abnormal. Users can choose to continue waiting for the remaining order to be filled or cancel it and place a new order based on market conditions.
